Feature Film Commissioned

So happy to share that my first feature Mari is one of two films commissioned through Film London's Microwave scheme! The film is backed by BBC Films and the BFI. Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission has this to say:

"The latest Microwave selections combine bold ideas, complex characters and relatable stories that cast an unblinking eye on the modern human experience. These are films that come from very personal, individual places but immerse us in timely, universal themes. In short, they're exactly the kind of features we should be backing from the kind of filmmakers we want to support: those with distinctive visions and stories that need to be told."

So thrilled that Mari is one of 12 projects through to the first stage of the 2016/17 Microwave scheme. Myself and Producer Emma Duffy, have just finished an intensive week of 'Microschool' with the other filmmakers. The support and mentoring we received was incredible, so grateful that schemes like this exist!

BBC News Interview

Recently I was interviewed by BBC News, discussing women in the film industry and the gender imbalance. I also spoke about the type of women I'm choosing to write and present in film. They followed me on the set of my latest short film Abandon, where I'm pleased to say the majority of crew were women!

Competitions, Compositions & Collaborations

October got off to a great start with two wins at WOFFF ( The Women Over 50 Film Festival ) last weekend.  It was such a pleasure to be part of a festival I feel is doing an incredible and much needed job of promoting the talents of older women in film, both in front of and behind the camera.  A Moment To Move screened and received accolades for both Best Drama and Audience Choice awards.  The judging panel had this to say:

"In 3rd place is a delicate portrait of the older generation feeling invisible and trapped.  A moment of freedom and anonymity give us the joyous insight into our heroine's true self. Beautifully understated with an uplifting denouement. We loved it."

Percussionists Zands Duggan & Louise Anna Duggan have been composing and recording for my next short film - Abandon. Having worked together on three films it's great to be collaborating with them once again.  A busy and exciting first week in October with lots more to come...
